Monday, February 6, 2023

To further the goal of casting a wide net to attract the broadest possible pool of qualified applicants to serve as federal judges, the Judicial Conference Committees on the Administration of the Bankruptcy System and Magistrate Judges System present:

Roadways to the Bench:
Who Me? A Bankruptcy or Magistrate Judge?

April 3, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.
Pete V. Domenici U.S. Courthouse
Jury Assembly Room, 2nd Floor
333 Lomas Blvd. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102

  • All interested lawyers and law students are invited to observe a national live-streamed panel discussion and participate in the local roundtable discussions that will follow, led by New Mexico federal bankruptcy, magistrate, district, and appellate judges about pathways to the federal bench.
  • On the National Panel will be the Moderator, Circuit Judge Carl E. Stewart (5th Cir.); Circuit Judge Stephanie Dawkins Davis (6th Cir.), former district judge (2019 to 2020) and magistrate judge (2016 to 2019); District Judge Laura Taylor Swain (S.D.N.Y.), former bankruptcy judge (1996 to 2000); Bankruptcy Judge Kesha Lynn Tanabe (Bankr. D. Minn.); and Magistrate Judge Mustafa T. Kasubhai (D. Or.).
  • The first Roadways to the Bench event was held simultaneously in 19 cities and 16 states across the country in 2019. Ten lawyers who attended that event are now federal judges. Expanding on that success, the 2023 Roadways to the Bench event will be held in at least 38 cities in 27 states and territories, including in the District of New Mexico. We expect strong participation from Article I and Article III judges from throughout the state. A reception with light refreshments will follow the event.

Once capacity is reached, registrants will be placed on a waitlist and will be notified if space becomes available. Approved for 2.3 hours of New Mexico general CLE credit.
