CLE Event October 21, 2025 - AI, Explained: From Code to Courtroom and Beyond

The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals Library, District of New Mexico Branch and United States District Court, District of New Mexico, along with the New Mexico Bench and Bar, are pleased to host University of New Mexico Law School Professor Sonia Gipson Rankin as she presents AI, Explained: From Code to Courtroom and Beyond.  This exciting three-hour session offers legal professionals a clear, accessible, and forward-looking exploration of artificial intelligence.  Professor Gipson Rankin will explain how AI systems work, then examine applications in criminal, civil, and transactional practice, including discovery review, contract analysis, translation tools, courtroom use, and algorithmic forensic evidence.  Discussion points will address common risks such as bias, data security, and rapid technological change.  Also included is a guided, hands-on workshop, ensuring participants leave with the knowledge, skills, and ethical ground to use AI effectively.  The presentation has been approved for 3 hours CLE, including 1 hour of ethics and 2 hours of general credits.  The New Mexico Bench and Bar is funding the CLE credit fee, so no payment is necessary. Attendees may bring their phones and laptop devices.

The session will take place on Tuesday, October 21 from 9:00am - 12:00pm.  You can register to attend onsite or online.  The onsite session will take place at the Pete V. Domenici Federal Courthouse in the Jury Assembly Room.  The doors open at 8:30am so you can get settled, mingle with other participants, and enjoy light refreshments.  The online session will take place on MS Teams and the presentation access link will be sent no later than 24 hours prior to the session event.
