Friday, February 10, 2023

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The United States District Court announces the appointment of Jennifer M. Rozzoni as the District’s newest United States Magistrate Judge in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Judge Rozzoni joins the Court after more than fourteen years as an Assistant United States Attorney in Albuquerque, where she prosecuted a vast array of cases including violent crimes, narcotics conspiracies and other organized crimes, and appeals. Since February 2021, she has been on remote detail to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia where she has assisted in managing and prosecuting the multitude of criminal cases that arose from the January 6 riots at the United States Capitol. In March 2022, she was promoted to a deputy chief position in the Capital Siege section of the Washington office and served in that role until her appointment to the bench.

Prior to her service at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Judge Rozzoni was an associate attorney at the Albuquerque law firms of Allen, Shepherd, Lewis & Syra, P.A., and Dixon, Scholl & Carillo, P.A. in 2006. For nearly seven years, she represented clients in cases involving construction defect, automobile liability, professional liability, product liability, and commercial real estate matters. Judge Rozzoni received her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 2001 and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1998.

The duties of a United States Magistrate Judge are demanding and wide-ranging in both civil and criminal cases. Magistrate Judges conduct preliminary hearings in criminal cases, trials and dispositions of misdemeanor actions, discovery, and various other pretrial hearings in civil cases. They also preside over trials in civil cases upon consent of the litigants and other matters as may be assigned. Judge Rozzoni’s proven legal abilities combined with her experience in both the civil and criminal arenas make her well qualified for the position of a United States Magistrate Judge.
