Joel M. Carson III Appointed as Part-Time U.S. Magistrate Judge

JOEL M. CARSON APPOINTED PART-TIME UNITED STATES MAGISTRATE JUDGE FOR THE DISTRICT OF NEW MEXICO
 
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – On Friday, August 14, 2015, the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico appointed Joel M. Carson III, as Part-Time United States Magistrate Judge.  The 4-year appointment is located in Roswell, New Mexico.
 
Mr. Carson obtained his B.B.A. in Finance from Texas Tech University and continued his education at the University of New Mexico School of Law, earning the Corpus Juris Secundum Award in Property Law.  Following law school, Mr. Carson served for two years as law clerk for the Honorable Bobby R. Baldock of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
 
Mr. Carson served on numerous industry committees, including the legal committees for the New Mexico Oil and Gas Association and the Independent Petroleum Association of New Mexico. Mr. Carson will continue his private practice in the broad spectrum of commercial and energy litigation, employment litigation, and appellate representation.
 
Mr. Carson was selected from a pool of applicants for the Part-Time Magistrate Judge position.  A Magistrate Merit Selection Panel, consisting of attorneys and lay persons from around the state, reviewed applications, interviewed candidates, and reported their recommendations to the district’s United States District Judges, who then made the final determination.
