NOMINATION OF THE HONORABLE KEVIN SWEAZEA TO FILL UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT JUDICIAL VACANCY IN THE DISTRICT OF NEW MEXICO
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The White House has announced that President Donald J. Trump will nominate United States Magistrate Judge Kevin R. Sweazea to fill the judicial vacancy in Las Cruces on the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico. Judge Sweazea has served as a United States Magistrate Judge in Las Cruces since May of 2017 and previously served for sixteen years as a New Mexico State District Judge for the Seventh Judicial District Court. Judge Sweazea is well qualified for the position of United States District Judge.
Considering the large and ever increasing caseloads in the federal courts along the Southwest Border and considering the current judicial vacancies on the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico, I am optimistic and hopeful that the United States Senate will expeditiously consider Judge Sweazea’s nomination through the Senate Confirmation process.
